Tip Tuesdays: Kick the Fast Food habit...

I had a nice little blog about DIY skincare ready for you but then I read an article that I felt was more pressing for todays Tip! I need you to get rid of your awful fast food habits! I remember the days I was a fast food junkie...I use to have some form of fast food at least everyday if not several times a day. It's all around us, conveniently placed on every corner--catering to our empty wallets and "gotta-have-it-now" mentalities.Over the last few years, (as I started researching more about food, what's in it, what is "suppose" to be in it, and all the things we consume on the daily basis that is definitely not suppose to be in our food period!), I've come to the conclusion that we are blind consumers. We allow our health and hard earn cash to be taken by money-hungry industries that can honestly careless weather we live or die. It's a harsh reality but it's true.

Take a look at this article a get a good perspective of good ole McDonald chicken nuggets---the food kids crave!

"What's in Fast Food Chicken? (Hint: It's NOT Chicken)"

Real-chicken-ccflcr-chargrillkiller-

Frying chicken is fairly simple, if a little messy. You dip pieces of chicken into a mix of egg and milk, roll them around in flour and spices, then cook the chicken in sizzling hot oil until the pieces are brown, crispy and delicious.

But wait! Don’t forget to add a dash of dimethylpolysiloxane, an anti-foaming agent made of silicone that is also used in Silly Putty and cosmetics.

Now add a heaping spoonful of tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), which is a chemical preservative and a form of butane (AKA lighter fluid). One gram of TBHQ can cause “nausea, vomiting, ringing in the ears, delirium, a sense of suffocation, and collapse," according to A Consumer’s Dictionary of Food Additives. Five grams of TBHQ can kill you.

Sprinkle on thirteen other corn-derived ingredients, and you're only about twenty shy as many ingredients as a single chicken nugget from McDonald’s. And youwere using pulverized chicken skin and mechanically reclaimed meat for your chicken, right?

No one in his or her right mind would cook chicken like this. Yet every day, hoards of Americans consume these ingredients in Chicken McNuggets, which McDonalds claims are “made with white meat, wrapped up in a crisp tempura batter.”

However chicken only accounts for about 50% of a Chicken McNugget. The other 50% includes a large percentage of corn derivatives, sugars, leavening agents and other completely synthetic ingredients, meaning that parts of the nugget do not come from a field or farm at all. They come from a petroleum plant. Hungry? (continue reading...)

Kick the habit. Do better by your body, health, and kids (if you have any)!

Until next time,

Peace, Lovin, Swipes!

Freaky Friday: Soo...Men fake it too!

It's obvious that probably both sexes fake the "O" from time to time. But women usually get the bad wrap for doing it often!  However, the Journal of Sex Research did a survey last year  that says 25% of men have faked it during some sort of sexual activity! In a July Freaky Friday post, I wrote about why women fake it and if men cared. But today let's touch on the Top 10 reasons men fake orgasms, according to the Sex and Love editor of the Daily Loaf.

Male-fake-orgasm

First off, some women may be thinking...how does a guy fake an orgasm in the first place? Women may exaggerate a few moans and groans but men produce much more concrete evidence! Well apparently it's easier than you think. According to the article, "The best technique involves a condom. He simply fills the little bag with bad acting then grips the end when he pulls out." Hmmm...interesting, easy enough I guess.

Ok, now that we have somewhat of an idea of how guys fake it...let's explore why? There are three types of fakers:

  1. The guy who fakes it on his first time with a woman who is less than he expected in bed.
  2. The guy who genuinely likes his partner and does not want her to think she is doing something wrong, and
  3. The guy who does not want to deal with the various repercussions from an insecure partner who reads way too much into sex

Now onto the Top 10 reasons guys fake it (for full descriptions click here):

10. So he can finish somewhere inappropriate

 9. She does not share his kink

 8. She lets something unsexy slip

 7. She makes sex into a spiritual or bonding experience

 6. He sobers up or becomes too drunk

 5. He is shooting blanks

 4. His fantasy does not live up to the reality

 3. He is bored

 2. She reads way too much into Sex

1. She does not turn him on

Men, is this list accurate? And women how do you feel about this? Let me know your comments, thoughts and hell even experiences if you feel like sharing!

Have a great weekend! Make sure you have your Swipes Lovin Wipes for all the real and fake moments of intimacy ;-)

Tip Tuesdays--Use a CONDOM that's better for you!

Sir_richards_condoms_1

There are only so many condom brands out there to choose from, the majors are Trojan, Durex, and Lifestyle. Trojan I would say probably tromps all of them because of marketing, condom variety, and overall popularity. When it's time to buy condoms, there is only one thought on the brand--SEX...ok two (hopefully): sex and protection. So I figure most don't really think to much about what their condom may be made out. As long as it works it's "A-ok"! Right? Well...not necessarily.

Most condoms are made with an ingredient called Casein. Casein is a protein found in milk. This animal by-product is used by most manufacturers to make latex. But some researchers have found that casein can lead to cancer and even autism. So why risk it?

There are a few newer condoms on the market today that don't use casein in their products. These condoms are more commonly known as "vegan condoms." But you don't have to be a vegan to see the benefit!

Today my Tuesday Tip is to try a condom that's better for you! I want to highlight one brand in particular that isn't only by-product free but they are also social advocates!

Sir Richards is known as the "TOMS shoes of rubbers" by Daily Candy, they follow the "buy one give one" business model. For every condom you buy they will donate one to a country in need.

Now when you go buy condoms, you can choose one that may actually make a difference for your health---and someone else's!

Stay safe!

Peace, Lovin, and Swipes!

Freaky Friday: The JOY of a Quickie

“Sometimes I simply want to be tackled when I am coming through the door, and made to feel insanely desirable.”

That quote stood out to me while reading "A Joy of a Quickie" by Pepper Schwartz, Ph.D. on AKA Mom online Mag. The whole article explores the sheer bliss of having few hot and bothering minutes of a quick Sexcapade. I agree with Dr. Schwartz, sometimes there is no need for the long sensual love making. I'm not saying to forget about that important aspect men but sometimes women just want to get some in and get back to "Keeping up with the the Kardashians"!

Quickies are a way to explore the animalistic side of your relationship. A little lust and desire can go far in a relationship. But guys, just don't turn our spontaneous quickies into the only form of intimacy!

Always remember whether it's a quickie or a full blown session, have your Swipes Lovin Wipes handy! Trust me you'll need them ;-)

Happy Friday Everyone!

Peace, Lovin, Swipes!

It's Hump Day---make a Sexy & Green day out of it!

Today's "Way back Wednesday" blog, was written a few months ago for Earth day but here at Swipes Inc. we believe everyday is Earth Day (and you probably never read it anyway)! It's still summer time so all of this advice still applies :) Enjoy.

Here, at the SLW SexyandGreen blog, we want to share the lovin with our already Eco-savvy folks and those who are transitioning to a greener way of life. Today we give you the Greenest, Sexiest, Earth day tips we could find!

1. Eat Out and Explore.

Get your mind out of the gutter! Eat outside silly! Nature.org has started an initiative to celebrate Earth day by having a Picnic for the Planet! It’s a great way to get your family and friends (or just significant other) to experience some fun with mother nature!

***if you take the Significant other route..make a romantic picnic out of the day. Get some organic strawberries, chocolate, and wine and roll around in the dirt if you know what I mean!

2. Go Down…to a farmers market!

Take this day to consciously think about the food you consume—what’s in it and where you buy it. Nature.org also provides 4 more easy actions to take:

·        Eat Smart- Learn what’s in your food, where it came from and who it impacts.

·        Eat Local- Where possible, buy food that is in season from local food producers

·        Eat Sustainabily- Eat sustainable seafood — one of the only things that we eat that we still get from the wild

·        Eat Green- Eat more fruits and vegetables — it’s good for your health and the planet’s

3.Turn off the Lights.

So after you’ve been outside all day (or if being outside is not your thing) go in the house and turn off the lights. Romance it up and use candles for the rest of the evening. Whatever else you want to do in the dark is your business.

  1. Soap up together.

While the lights are off, why don’t you save water too! Take a shower or bath together; it’ll be fun for you and the earth will thank you by not washing individually. However, if you find your self lingering in the shower longing than it takes to scrub up (or down)  once or twice…take a moment and turn off the shower. (You don’t want to defeat the purpose!)

5. Use your Swipes Lovin Wipes ( Yup I went there!) If you plan to be in the dark for hours, showering, and all that jazz you may want to keep you SLW close by!

Hope these tips will make your Earth Day Sexy and Green!

Peace, Lovin, and Swipes!

P.S this Earth Day edition counts as S&G tip 11 :) Spread the Lovin!

The Greener the berry...the sweeter the juice?...(Tuesday Tip #2:)

Black-couple

Ok we all know the saying is the "blacker the berry the sweeter the juice"! But let's look at the "Greener the berry" as a metaphor for greener food consumption. After doing some research it has come to my attention that your nutrition can greatly affect the taste of your "love" juices.

All my Sex and the City fans may appreciate this little flashback, on an episode dating back to August of 2000, Samantha told her lover,” You’ve got funky-tasting spunk!" Now that's what you call an ego buster!

Both men and women are faced with this dilemma and it can make anyone a little self conscious if they are receiving any kind of oral action. So what can you do, internally, to help ensure you taste the sweetest you can be?

Well it has been said that Vegans and Vegetarians have the best tasting love juices around! If you're not a Vegan nor Vegetarian no need to fret! There are basic foods that you need to consume and others that you need to drop at least around the times you know you'll have an encounter.

Consume less (or cut down on):

  • Red meat
  • greasy foods
  • spices
  • coffee
  • diary products
  • tobacco
  • and dare I say Chocolate!!! (Kill me now!)

And unfortunately these green foods make the list as well:

  • Asparagus
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Brussels sprouts

Consume more:

Fruits and water!!!!! The consensus really came to those two major things. Pineapple wins in the fruit department (one of my favs! Good thing because that chocolate thing was a downer). It can't get any more natural than that! The sweeter the fruits the more your body will absorb and this should effect the taste. The water helps flush out the toxins and chemicals that may give off an odor or bad taste.

And if those things fail (remember everyone is different), then it's time to add the chocolate back into the equation or even some honey and work it out! You get my drift, I'm sure. Whatever your choice is make sure Swipes Lovin Wipes is there to help freshen you up and clean up the love juices, chocolate, or honey and anything else you throw in the mix!

Peace, Lovin, Swipes!

S&G Tuesday Tip #1:How to Make Your Own Beauty Products from Scratch

Diy_project

I recently discovered a great site known as Good.is, they offer the lastest news and current events as well as a plethora of Green, sustainable projects and tips! A few months ago I wrote a blog helping you Turn your leftovers into Spa Products ! That post was such a hit that I wanted to share some more DIY tips on other products you can create in the comfort of your home!  This way you know exactly what goes into your products!

Siobhan O'Connor, author of "No more dirty looks." is a contributing writer for Good.is and she's providing us with Six DIY beauty tips--all created with no more than four ingredients, now that's easy enough!

Enjoy! As always stay Sexy and Green!

Peace, Lovin, and Swipes!

Simple body scrub

Many body scrubs, even the ones that claim to be sugar- or salt-based, actually contain beads made out of polyethylene, which isenvironmentally deplorable (it all goes down the drain, remember)—to say nothing of the preservatives, fragrance, penetration enhancers, and sulfates that typically bulk up these products. Instead, head to your kitchen. Grab a bowl and combine a quarter cup of any oil you like (I like olive best), an eighth of a cup of coarse brown sugar, same amount of salt, and an essential oil you love. Vanilla seems to me the can't-beat option for smell, but go with your favorite. And if you have dry skin, a sunburn, or eczema, leave out the salt and double up the sugar.

Honey face wash

We already told you about our new favorite homemade face wash last week but here's the recipe: In the palm of your hand, combine a tablespoon of raw, unfiltered honey with a half a tablespoon of baking soda, mix it together, and apply to damp skin. The honey is antibacterial while also soothing dry skin, and the baking soda is gently exfoliating without tearing or irritating your face. Cheap, too.

One-ingredient eye liner

For the ladies (or the gents with a flair for the dramatic) this is as easy as it gets: Grab a capsule of activated charcoal, which you can get at most pharmacies and any health food store. Instead of ingesting it for your tummy ache, dump out the contents on a clean surface, moisten the tip of a makeup brush with water, and sweep it on like you would any other eye liner. It goes on easily and lasts just as long as regular powdered liner—minus the preservatives, artificial dyes, fragrance, and other chemicals.

Perfume

Because fragrance is protected under trade secret laws, there is literally no way to know what is in that perfume or cologne you think of as your signature scent. But if a recent study is any indication (and it is), there are some things in there we shouldn't be too happy about. Instead, make your own! Combine essential oils you like—cedar, ylang ylang, vanilla, lavender, citrus oils—with a little bit of vodka, and keep it in an airtight container. You can experiment and tweak it as the seasons change—lighter in summer, heavier for winter—without having to drop another $80 on potentially dangerous chemical cocktails.

Shave oil

Outside the shower, grab an oil you like—olive, argan, jojoba, and coconut work well—slather it on the area that needs a shave, and go for it. Oils are hard for some people at first: We are hard-wired to think oils on our face are a bad idea, but if you use a skin-compatible oil like the ones listed, it won't clog pores or cause breakouts. (In fact, some people find the opposite happens!)

Yogurt face mask

This one raises some eyebrows—putting yogurt on your face sounds a little gross at first—but it can be a great skin-brightening, moisturizing mask on its own for sensitive skin. Combine a cut of yogurt with half a cup of non-instant oatmeal, mix, and apply. The lactic acid in the yogurt softens skin gently, and can be great for dehydrated and congested skin. Leave it in for 15 minutes, and rinse. No need to wash after.

This is a series inspired by No More Dirty Looks: The Truth About Your Beauty Products and the Ultimate Guide to Safe and Clean Cosmetics, a book by GOOD's features editor Siobhan O'Connor and her co-author Alexandra Spunt.

Good Vibrations Offers the Burning Man Safer Sex Kit with Swipes Lovin Wipes

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Way back Wednesday: This Woman in Business is Cleaning UP!

WE Mag interview w/ Swipes CFO--This Woman in Business is Cleaning UP!

  • Tell us about your business?
  • Swipes inc is the minority/women owned company that produces Swipes Lovin Wipes ®, are an all natural, biodegradable, compostable, dispersible, and flushable personal hygiene wipes that are, free of alcohol, chlorine, and dyes, made of 98% renewable resources and are intended for adults to freshen up before and after intimate moments. Because it is enhanced with only aloe and vitamin E and are also hypo-allergenic, they are safe and soft for even the most sensitive places.
  • Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place?
  • Before I started Swipes Inc, with my partner, Vera, I had the intention of starting medical school. Although, I was excited about continuing my education, I felt as though there was something more that I wanted to do. Now that Swipes Inc is running on all cylinders, I have the freedom to work with people I want, get involved in events and charities I care about, and take pride in knowing that I am offering an eco friendly product that is priced reasonably and therefore accessible to more people.
  • What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?
  • My inspiration was my mother, who after working 17 years for someone else, decided to open her own Physical Therapy office, she has never been happier because she finally gets to treat patients with personal care and attention. The greatest influence was my sister, she is an environmentalist and guided me in all aspects Green.
  • What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?
  • From a business stand point it has definitely been: overcoming the hurdles placed in front of us by large companies, but slowly and surely they have seen the value and opened their doors.
  • What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?
  • Get advice from as many different channels, don’t accept the word of one person as the final answer. Everyone you meet has words of wisdom, but ultimately your gut instinct will make the best decision.
  • What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business?
  • Apart from the social media, the most effective initiatives we have taken have been to get involved in local and non-profit organizations. By providing product samples to people at these types of events, we get the product directly in the hands of the consumer and we get to support a cause. Great for branding and all around feel good experience.
  • What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?
  • Ask questions. No matter how good you are at your business, there is no possible way you can be the expert in all aspects of your business. Nobody is going to know or love your business more than you. But don’t be afraid to know your limitations, people are always willing to help, especially in their area of expertise. It gives them a chance to shine, helps your business, and facilitates in better decision making
  • Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business?
  • I believe this depends on the area of your business. If, for example you are an eco company, get involved in eco groups, communities, events, etc. If you are a baby product, get involved with mommies. And ask them what they want. If you have a great idea, but don’t know how to get it out there, nobody will know you exist.
  • Do you have any new projects coming up (or have you just completed a big project ~ reached a milestone, etc.)?
  • We just celebrated out official Grand Opening Party, as members of certain communities, we reached many people and by hosting the event at our location, giving away samples, we made sales, new customers, and were even interviewed by the local media. In addition, after months of chasing, piles of paperwork, and endless emails we have just been welcomed into a large distribution company. Very exciting.
  • What do you do for fun/relaxation?
  • Living in Florida, I definitely take advantage of the things around me. I love to go for a run outside with my Jack Russell, “Ocean.” To cool off in the heat I am an avid scuba diver, and I love to go fishing and cook what I catch. To relax (and so much more) I enjoy Hot Vinyasa Yoga.
  • What is Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?
  • To make Swipes a household name.
  • You want to write a book on: Cooking what you catch-recipes for the kitchen and for life, learning how to take advantage of your resources, whether it be food ingredients or life experiences
  • Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
  • I just published a Children’s book, but it was just for fun.
  • It is called the Adventures of the Chinchilla and the Gorilla:
  • What’s the best way for our readers to connect with you?
